Whitton High Street was partly closed by fire trucks racing to a blaze behind shops.
Firefighters were called to the blaze behind shops in the street about 7.30pm yesterday.
The fire is believed to have started in rubbish behind a shop.
One witness said he could see thick smoke coming from the roofs near Pizza Hut as he left Whitton station.

Fire crews from Chiswick, Heston and Feltham together with a command unit had the fire extinguished quickly.
The nearby Spice of India restaurant filled with smoke, with some diners choosing to stand outside until it cleared but there was no evacuation and most people chose to remain seated during the incident.
