The 18th century Twickenham home of the Bishop of Kensington has been rented out, but just for the period before the new bishop moves in.
The church put Dial House, located on the Riverside and thought to date back to 1722, on the private rental market to limit financial loss while it is empty.
A spokesman for the property management team of the diocese of London, said he wanted to reassure eagle-eyed residents who might have spotted Dial House advertised for rent that it was staying in the church.
He said: "This is a temporary move to ensure the 18th century dwelling's rental potential is realised during the appointment of a successor to the Bishop of Kensington.
"Following the move of the bishop, the Right Rev Michael Colclough, as canon residentiary of St Paul's Cathedral, the bishop's former residence Dial House has been privately rented on a short lease.
"On the appointment of his successor, Dial House will once again be used as the official residence for the Bishop of Kensington."

Dial House was owned by the Twining family until Elizabeth Twining bequeathed it to the church when she died in 1889. It was made a vicarage after structural work and became the official residence of the Bishop of Kensington in 2001.
The six-bedroom property has been rented out through Dexters in Twickenham for £3,500 per calendar month to a couple. It is not clear how long it will be rented for.
A spokesman for Dexters said: "We completed thorough reference checks and the couple who have rented Dial House far exceeded our expectations.
"We have every confidence they will look after the property and they are fully aware of its historical and architectural significance.
"We will also be visiting Dial House four times a year to make sure all is well."
