A barrister from Barnes has been jailed following a drugs and gun raid at a Barnes address.

Hassan Modjiri, 27, a criminal barrister, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on Wednesday to seven years for possession of cocaine, and seven years for intent to supply. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Detective Superintendent Jim Dickie, from SCD7 Central Task Force said: "It is particularly shocking that a man who has full knowledge of the law and its consequences would be involved in this sort of criminal activity.

"Regardless of anyone's position or occupation, nobody is above the law."

Modjiri was arrested with Paul Murdoch, 36, unemployed, of Edith Grove, Hammersmith, during the raid at Castlenau Gardens on October 19.

Armed officers found the men cutting up a large quantity of cocaine with a bulking agent. On searching the house police found a further haul of cocaine, taking the total value of the drugs seized to between nearly £130,000 and £150,000 at street value.

Det Supt Dickie said: "As a result of these arrests the Central Task Force have succeeded in removing a large amount of drugs from the street and have successfully ensured that the dealers will no longer be able to operate."

Officers also discovered a 9mm handgun and rifle ammunition in the car driven by Murdoch, including three spent cartridges.

Murdoch was sentenced to seven years for possession of cocaine with intent to supply and was handed a further two-and-a-half years for possession of firearms.

Det Supt Dickie said: "Murdoch had in his possession a significant amount of ammunition, which would have clearly been a threat to London's communities."

Both men pleaded guilty to all charges in a hearing on October 28.
