It was a fairy-tale ending for one Sheen family after their pet rabbit decided the grass was greener in Richmond Park.

Bo the bunny was like the stuff of story books, after he escaped from his owners' garden and dodged rush-hour traffic to be rescued by an eagle-eyed driver close to the park.

The six-month old Rex rabbit made his bid for freedom from the Pinkus family garden in Stonehill Close at around 4pm last Tuesday.

Mother of two Mrs Pinkus, 36, said: "We exercise him in the garden and thought we'd barred our gate, but he obviously hopped over the barricade.

The family's two children, Daniel, eight, and Alissa, four, were so distraught at Bo's disappearance that their mother vowed to find him.

"We were supposed to go out the next day but I made it my mission," she added.

On Wednesday, Mrs Pinkus took to the streets around Sheen with missing posters, tracking sightings of the much loved pet.

"An elderly lady said she had seen Bo in her garden, then another said she had seen him in the street," she said.

Mrs Pinkus' search took her to Richmond Park where she left a notice near the Sheen gate then headed home.

"We were worried that a fox would take him," said Mrs Pinkus.

Luckily for Bo and the Pinkus', a modern-day Dr Dolittle was just around the corner.

Henry Goldsmith, 24, of Cranbrook Road, Wimbledon, spotted Bo lying in the grass on Tuesday evening as he was driving home.

"I saw he wasn't a wild rabbit, so I stopped to pick him up," said Mr Goldsmith, a geologist. "It wouldn't have been right to leave him"
