ELTHAM resident Dr Nikki Ramskill, 28, is taking part in a women-only challenge to trek The Great Wall of China, over six days from Jinshanling to Mutianyu and finishing in Beijing. She is fund-raising for the charity Genesis Research Trust, helping women and babies.
Her fundraising target is £3,100. However half of that pays for the costs of the trip and the other half is donated to the charity. She has decided to pay the trip costs herself so that everything else raised will go to the charity.
Nikki's inspiration for the Trek stems from her career as a doctor in obstetrics and gynaecology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. She trained at St George's Medical School in Tooting.
"Every day I see women who've suffered miscarriages, had difficulties conceiving or other issues. I can certainly relate to the importance of the work and research the charity is doing."
This challenge is run by the Genesis Research Trust to raise money to support female scientists and clinicians to specialise in research to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of devastating conditions which cause miscarriage, genetic diseases, infertility and cancer. Nearly 250 babies die every week in the UK from complications during pregnancy.
Any help you can provide will be gratefully received.
