An environmentally-aware Richmond hotel which offers "green" weddings has won a council award for its devotion to clean energy and recycling.
The Bingham Hotel’s Georgian riverside townhouse, which uses only biodegradable toilet paper, was inspected by a council greening business adviser earlier this month and was presented with a Go Green award.
The hotel, which has benefited from the council’s greening business support, uses compostable pens, is replacing all lighting with more efficient LED lamps and has plans to harvest rainwater for use in the garden.
Richmond cabinet member for environment Councillor Pamela Fleming said: "Not only does the local economy continue to go from strength-to-strength, it’s getting greener too thanks to projects such as this one.
"The greening project saves businesses money and residents will have a greener, healthier environment to enjoy."
Small to medium-sized businesses that also aim to save money or go green need to register for support by September 22.
