A Worcester Park impressionist wowed all four judges on Britain’s Got Talent during his audition at the weekend.
Voiceover artist Darren Altman had the crowd in stitches as he impersonated hosts Ant and Dec, David Attenborough and chef Gordon Ramsey.
But the 43-year-old admitted that the moments leading up to his audition, which was aired on ITV on Saturday night, were some of the most nervous of his life.
He said: “To say that I was a nervous wreck would be an understatement. “It’s one thing to do voiceover work in a booth, but it’s something else entirely to perform in front of 3,000 people in the Dominion Theatre.
“Luckily Amanda Holden put me at ease before I started, but once I did the adrenaline really kicked in.
“I saw Simon out of the corner of my eye laughing and I suddenly got so much energy from the reaction that I was getting air.”
The Wimbledon-born father-of-two is also the recognisable voice behind the 118-118 and IAMS CAT adverts and said he developed his talent from an early age.
Following his appearance on the show Mr Altman has said watching himself back shows he made the right decision to pursue his talent.
He said: “I’ve watched the clip back and seeing the audience going mad and having Simon say to me that I’m the best impressionist that he has heard in 10 years of the show really validated what I’m doing.
“There’s been several times where I have asked ‘Is it good enough?’ and doing the show has made me think that I can’t be that bad.”
