Fenton the dog is starring in a Where’s Wally-inspired book after the video of him chasing deer in Richmond Park became a hit on YouTube.

The black labrador, seen being chased by his owner through Richmond Park, has been transformed into a cartoon canine for the new book, Find Fenton.

The book, released on September 27, features 16 London scenes including Camden Market, the Proms, Notting Hill Carnival and, of course, Richmond Park.

Stuart Cooper, who came up with the idea for the book, said the satirical humour in the drawings meant it was suitable for adults as well as children.

He said: “We have the current Government and the opposition in the House of Commons, with the coalition doing funny things.”

Mr Cooper said the scenes in the book were a characterised and chaotic version of reality, to make finding Fenton a challenge.

He said: “It is a continuation of the Fenton story, which started in Richmond Park. I saw the video on YouTube and thought it was a great clip and very funny. It obviously caught the imaginations of a lot of people.”

With the eyes of the world on London for the Olympics, Mr Cooper thought combining the iconic scenes of the city with the YouTube sensation and a puzzle element would appeal to a wide audience.

Illustrator Martin Berry, who created the book’s illustrations, thought it would be well received due to the large number of people who watched the video.

He said: “All the drawings are very complicated and you have to find Fenton in each one, as well as other things like his lead and collar.”

Mr Berry had not seen the video, which has had almost 7m views, when he was asked to work on Find Fenton.

He said: “Of course then I did watch it and found it quite funny. It is rather humorous because you see them run into the distance and you can imagine that chase happening all across London.”

Doctor Who and a fully-clothed Prince Harry are among the famous faces who also appear in the £9.99 hardback.
