Twenty-four boys and their families had the unique experience of finding out about life as a chorister at Hampton Court Palace.
Hampton School and the palace’s Chapel Royal hosted a taster day on Saturday, September 8, so youngsters aged between eight and 10 could find out more about the famous choir.
The boys from a total of 15 schools in Richmond, Kingston and Elmbridge also took part in a choral workshop and performance.
They sung the Call of Wisdom, by Will Todd, which featured in the Queen’s diamond jubilee service at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Michael Cole, whose seven-year-old son Michael took part, said: “It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.”
Luke Sitaraman, nine, from Holy Trinity Church of England School, in Richmond, said: “It was great. Other boys should definitely do this if they get the chance.”
Choristers have sung at the Chapel Royal for more than 500 years, but this was the first ever taster day as part of its bid to recruit boys with musical talent.
The youngsters will now get the opportunity to audition for the choir.
