A best-selling author is back from a stint in Hollywood to take part in an artistic celebration of the female form.

A satirical spotlight on size-zero culture and the never ending search for imagined perfection is the driving motivation behind the exhibition.

The trio of Kingston artists behind the art, furniture, and literature night Charmingly Naughty say they cannot wait for their work to go on display in October.

Hanna ten Doornkaat and Pat McCabe will show off a range of artwork that is a light-hearted celebration of the female form in all its guises large and small.

Lyndsay Russell, recently returned from Hollywood where she wrote a film script with Two and a Half Men creator Lee Aronsohn, will perform a reading from her book Making it Big, about a world where beauty ideals have been reversed.

Doornkaat will display collage paintings throwing a twist on the style of old masters like Manet.

She says: “The whole spirit will be very light-hearted, which is why we have given it the name Charmingly Naughty, and the work I’m putting in is basically a commentary about a consumerist society.

“Most of them are based on well-known paintings but I have turned my characters into sexy, somewhat overweight, ladies.

“So we have images where fat ladies are wearing lingerie will be sitting on hamburgers or on pizzas and there will be lots of cake and all that in the background. It is all about consumption in a way.”

At the same time McCabe’s range of luscious ladies embellished with machine stitching on to bits of furniture such as lamps, will also explore the idea of varying female forms on a unique canvas.

She says: “I started doing life drawing again and had tons of sketches and thought what am I going to do with these and thought I wonder what they would look like on a table.

"She is just an ordinary girl, really lovely and I have applied her image to furniture so she’s become practical art."

Russell, who will read from her book, said: "The book itself is about being in a world where to be a size eight and skinny is aspired to and I think it matches the paintings Hanna has done.

"I am making a social commentary on the pressure to be perfect when all you really need to be is a happy and healthy size."
