More than 100 young carers will get the chance to take part in creative arts activities this year.

Funding from the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Trust has enabled charity Create to design a new project, called Inspired:arts, which will be open to carers in Kingston aged between 12 and 18.

The carers will be given a much-needed break from their caring duties by taking part in the programme of 12 workshops run in partnership with Kingston Carers Network.

The creative sessions will allow the carers to improve social skills and confidence with like-minded peers and will include willow sculptures, digital photography, jewellery-making, banner-making and painting, and music and song-writing.

They will take place during the school holidays between August this year and February 23 next year.

At the end of the project each young carer will receive a certificate and an anthology showcasing their work, which they can share with friends and family.

Create was founded in July 2003 and has run more than 3,500 creative arts workshops for more than 23,200 disadvantaged and vulnerable participants.
