There is growing concern for a 69-year-old man who has gone missing near Crane Park in Twickenham, after going out for a walk yesterday.

Sundararaj Gnanasigamani was last seen in the area, where he is staying with family, at about 3.30pm yesterday.

He was wearing light coloured trousers a pink shirt and sandals, but no jacket or overcoat.

Paramedics and firefighters were called out at 2am to The Meadway, near Crane River.

Firefighters from Twickenham fire station said they were called because they believed police officers wanted them to search the river.

London Ambulance Service were also called to The Meadway and sent an ambulance crew and a duty officer, but no one was treated.

Detective Inspector Andy Dunn from Twickenham police, said police had not received any reports that Mr Gnanasigamani had gone into the river, but they were searching that area as he liked to go for walks around there.

D Insp Dunn said: “There is no time limit required for searching for missing people, but bearing in mind his age and that he is not in his home country of India we were concerned for his safety.

“He left the house on his own accord. His family expected him to come back.”
