Elsie Collingwood celebrated reaching the grand old age of 100 surrounded by bouquets of flowers and with her birthday card from the Queen.
The centenarian spent the special day at the Royal Cambridge Home, in East Molesey, where she has lived since 2005.
She was born and bred in Teddington and was there most of her life before suffering a fall and breaking her hip in 2004.
She lived in Fulwell Road, Teddington, from 1940 until 2005, moving there when she married her first husband Arthur Bick, who was killed in action in Normandy, in 1944.
Mrs Collingwood also lost six members of Mr Bick’s family when his parents’ home in Shacklegate Road, Teddington, was bombed.
She married Jack Collingwood after the Second World War and they continued to live in Fulwell Road. Her son Barry was among her visitors who wished her a happy birthday on Saturday, August 11.
