Crane Park’s £400,000 makeover has helped it scoop a much-coveted Green Flag award 2012-13, which is the national award for public and community parks and green spaces.
In winning the award, the park has been deemed safe, secure, well managed and an example of community involvement.
The revamp, which was completed in March this year, was funded by the Mayor of London’s Help a London Park programme.
This is Richmond Council’s 13th Green Flag award, recognising that the borough’s parks as among the best in the country.
Other sites in the borough to have won the award include Richmond Green and Radnor Gardens.
The council’s cabinet member for environment, Councillor Virginia Morris, said: “We are delighted to have won this prestigious award for Crane Park, which pays tribute to all of the hard work that has been put into the park’s improvements by the local community and particularly groups like Friends of the River Crane Environment and Butts Farm Working Together Group.”
More than 6,600 people across Richmond and Hounslow voted for the park in the Mayor of London’s Help a London Park competition.
As a result, plans were put in place to make the park more welcoming, improve access, create links between the two sides of the river and enhance the biodiversity.
