As the £20m construction of Twickenham Academy reaches it s highest point, the school celebrate with a topping out ceremony – with further reason to celebrate having received a glowing Ofsted report.

The school became an academy in September 2010 and has received its first inspection since its educational makeover, where it is now operated by the Learning Schools Trust (LST) and reflects the ethos of educational sponsor, Kunskapsskolan.

Following the visit undertaken at all new academies in the second year of operation, Ofsted reported that “the academy is transforming the aspirations of most students and is strengthening outcomes”.

Principal Nick Jones said: “We were really pleased that the inspection team recognised the changes brought about in the academy and its good capacity to achieve further improvement.

“They also highlighted the strengths of our new learning model as an LST academy, and that this is transforming the aspirations of student and improving outcomes.”

At the topping out ceremony on Monday, June 18, the president of Kunskapsskolan, Cecilia Carnefeldt placed a commemorative stone, which will be used in the final building, to officially mark the milestone.

Twickenham Academy will move into the first part of its new building in April 2013.
