Sprints, relays and standing long jumps were just some of the activities on offer when Richmond's primary school students gathered together for a mini Olympics.

All 40 primary schools met for an annual borough-wide school sports day at St Mary's University College, in Twickenham, to test out the professional sporting track.

Christine Brett, head teacher of Richmond's St Elizabeth's school and co-ordinator of this year's schools event, said the event on Wednesday, June 13, had been a great chance for youngsters to meet and show off their sporting skills.

She said: "Because it is a special Olympic year every school was involved and every primary school had someone walking in the parade at the beginning to Chariot's of fire.

"The whole event was really well supported by the leader of the council, Lord True, and Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith."

She added that the RFU sponsored event was a wonderful opportunity for students, aged seven to 11, to try out the university's world class running track and facilities.
