A group of 15 cyclists will ride more than 200 miles from north Wales to Teddington in memory of a 28-year-old who died from bowel cancer.
Friends and family of Jon Ratcliffe decided to do the challenge this weekend because Saturday, June 16, would have been his 32nd birthday.
Mr Ratcliffe, originally from Wrexham, died in 2008, days after the diagnosis.
He was an all-round sportsman and his family thought the three day cycling challenge, in aid of Beating Bowel Cancer, would be an appropriate way to honour his memory.
His brother Ian Ratcliffe, from Twickenham, said: “We are really excited about taking on this challenge as a tribute to my brother Jon. Cycling about 70 miles a day won’t be easy, but remembering Jon over his birthday weekend will inspire us all to keep going.”
The group, due to arrive at Beating Bowel Cancer’s offices in Teddington at about 3.30pm on Monday, June 18, hoped to raise more than £15,000.
They will enjoy a charity barbecue at the Anglers pub after they arrive. To sponsor the team, visit justgiving.com/rob-ratcliffe.
