Do not put your winter wardrobe away just yet, as the early summer weather experienced last week was expected to come to an end.

Gone are the dreams of an Easter weekend basking in the sunshine, with the Met Office forecasting gloomy weather.

Friday, March 30, saw temperatures of about 20C, more than double the average for March in the UK, and people rushed out to enjoy the sun.

Edie Constantinou, 18 months, was among the sun seekers in Churchfields Recreation Ground.

She took some time out to devour a rapidly-melting ice cream in the Weybridge park.

But Easter was expected to be cloudy with outbreaks of rain.

However, the change in temperature has not been as extreme as in some parts in northern England and Scotland.

Arctic winds from the Norwegian sea brought snow and bitterly cold temperatures to areas such as Aboyne in Aberdeenshire.

Aboyne had seen the highest March temperature ever recorded, 23.6C, but on April 1, severe weather warnings were being issued.

So while Elmbridge is not expected to be shovelling snow this Easter, it is recommended people layer up.

Of course, an extra helping of Easter eggs will also provide some much-needed insulation.
