Broken down train at St Margarets derails Monday for many

A broken down train at St Margarets caused severe delays on trains between London Waterloo and Reading this morning.

Trains running through Richmond, Twickenham and St Margarets diverted, with passengers travelling to Richmond having to travel to Wimbledon, then use the district line and Twickenham and St Margarets passengers being advised to change at Feltham.

A South West Trains spokesman said: “Following an earlier broken down train at St Margarets, South West Trains was unable to run all trains from Barnes to Twickenham from approximately 5.30am until 10.30am.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our passengers this morning.”

All services along these routes are running as normal.

I was going for a run at 6 am and saw train broken down. At 7:30 am they still had nobody working on it and article says 5:30 am it broke. Surely they should be able to get engineers out within a couple of hours?

This is typical for SWT. Never mind their franchise obligations to provide the full timetable. One incident shuts down the network or parts of the network for hours and hours. Simply not good enough. One also wonders if the preventative maintenance is being done properly to stop such breakdowns. I was on a train recently that kept having to make emergency stops due to the doors not locking.
