A supermarket has had its alcohol licence revoked after it twice sold booze to undercover police cadets.

Hampton Supermarket Premier, in Percy Road, Hampton, had been allowed to sell drink between 8am and 11pm from Monday to Saturday and between 10am and 10.30pm on Sundays.

But police told Richmond Council’s licensing sub-committee on Thursday, December 8, that one of the main reasons for antisocial behaviour among young people in the area was because they drank alcohol.

The shop failed a test purchase in December last year, prompting the authority to impose conditions, including installing CCTV and telling staff to ask for identification from any customer who looked under 25.

However, a 16-year-old police cadet was still able to buy a can of Stella Artois lager from the store on August 24 this year.
