Thousands of crocuses have been planted in a community project designed to remind residents of unity for years to come.
About 30 members of Norbury Green Residents Association braved the foggy weather to plant 2,000 yellow, white and purple crocuses on Sunday November 20 funded through a £480 grant from Croydon Council.
Mark Smith, chairman of the association, said: “This was the first time.
"We wanted to do something together which would come around each year and remind us of this day working as a team.
"February is usually a pretty drab month so this should provide a splash of colour and is apt because the word Croydon comes from crocus.”
The flowers were planted on the green at Semley Road and at Norbury Green Road.
Planters then enjoyed a subsidised lunch at The Moon Under Water pub, London Road.
