Mast campaigners from Teddington left without signal

Mobile phone users in Teddington have been left without signal after developers started demolishing masts on top of a derelict office block.

Customers of Three and O2 in the area have reported having weaker reception since workers arrived at Somerset House, in Somerset Road.

Phone companies had planned to erect a new mast on the roof of nearby Traherne Lodge, in Sutherland Grove, until angry residents launched a campaign and stalled the project. A spokesman for Three said: “We apologise for any inconvenience the loss of the site at Somerset House has caused for our customers. We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.”

Developers have boarded up the former offices at Somerset House as they prepare to convert the building into new homes.

Teddington Councillor Stephen Knight said Three was set to install a replacement phone mast at Traherne Lodge but residents were concerned about the potential health risks.

The leader of Richmond’s Liberal Democrat group said: “I suspect that leaves the phone company in a bit of a mess as they’ve been left with nowhere to put their mast.

“Presumably if the Somerset House mast is down then users are losing reception.

“The trouble is there are not many tall buildings in the area of the right sort of height. I suspect the phone company is now in a rather desperate place, unless they are allowed to build on top of Traherne Lodge.

“If they do so it will not be with the support of the residents.”

He suggested the phone companies could offer Traherne Lodge residents free phone and internet services as compensation for the mast on the roof of their flats.

A spokesman for Ericsson, Three and Everything Everywhere said: “We are working closely with the local council, residents groups and other interested parties to find a solution to this problem as quickly as possible.

“We are hopeful that a solution has been identified and coverage can be fully restored in the near future.”

This is more like what the phone company's statement should be:

"Due to the fact that Richmond people like to live in the dark ages, we've taken the opportunity to not seek an alternative location for a phone mast. While we accept that some residents would like to have their mobile services restored, we've been bullied into submission by a loud minority, who have concerns over health issues that have no scientific foundation."

This is how we end up with a Twickenham on our hands! Resisting everything.

Or we could say! Well done Richmond

All research which is done in the UK is paid for by the wireless industry?

Cosmos as a example.

Any independent research is ridiculed, funny that!

If wireless radiation has no ill effects, then how come?

Electro-Sensitivity (ES)

Electro-sensitive people suffer from a variety of symptoms in close vicinity to electromagnetic fields, Wi-fi, mobiles, DECT phones, baby monitors, certain light sources etc: Headaches, Speech problems, dizziness, chest palpations, tinnitus, pressure in the ears. sweating at night. skin irritations, pins and needles in the hands in the mornings, short-term memory loss, nauseas, joint aches and pressures at the back of the head as well as in the sinus or forehead area.

Even if you are not ES yet, it is beneficial to turn off your Wifi over night, as well as to ban electrical items, your cordless phones and mobiles from your bedroom. You will sleep much better and are less likely to have an interrupted sleep pattern. Usually waking around 4 am.

Another simple test is to stop carrying your mobile on your body (chest or trouser pockets). in many cases people experience the so-called “phantom text messages”. This describes a situation where every now and then you think you had a text message, when keeping the phone in your pockets, but when you checked there was no message. Some even suffer from heart palpitations. If that is case, just try for a while to carry your mobile in a bag or switch it off, while you have it in your pocket. ( Phone Logging onto mast )
