Campaigners opposed to Heathrow expansion have welcomed the appointment of Justine Greening as the new Transport Secretary.
The Putney MP argued against a third runway and celebrated outside the Royal Courts of Justice after a ruling in March last year ordering the Government to halt the plans. She will take charge of Philip Hammond’s aviation policy review after Mr Hammond replaced Liam Fox as Defence Secretary.
John Stewart, chairman of Hacan Clearskies, which represents residents under Heathrow’s flight paths, said: “Whilst in opposition Justine Greening fought courageously to stop Labour’s plans to expand Heathrow. We are confident that under Justine Greening and aviation minister Theresa Villiers expansion plans will be well and truly off the agenda.”
