A husband and wife team who have made more than £6,000 for charity over the past 30 years marked their final fundraising sale of the year with a wide range of fruity plants aimed at getting buyers’ mouths watering.
Teddington Methodist Church members Brian and Pam Kent were hoping to make a sizeable contribution to research charity Leukemia and Lymphoma Research UK with one of their popular events, as part of their church and community centre’s fundraising coffee morning and plant sale on Saturday, October 15.
Mr Kent: “[The reason I do these sales is] I just like propagating plants.”
An assortment of shrubs and perennials, along with soft fruit plants including figs, blackberries and loganberries were available to buy at the sale.
The Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity was chosen by friend of the church Cathy Tyler, whose father died from blood cancer.
As well as raising funds for the cause, the morning also raised awareness of Sir Ian Botham’s “Beefy’s Great British Walk” to beat blood cancer, which will take place next year. The former England cricketer, who is also president of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, will complete the final leg of his marathon walk on April 21, 2012, with the finish line at Ham House.
