The new post office in Twickenham town centre has received nothing but praise from residents since its return last week.

The store in London Road opened at 7.30am on Friday, September 9, six months after the store in King Street closed.

A celebration opening was held for councillors and business partners on Thursday, September 8, while the final touches were still being put in place.

Postmaster Shailesh Patel was positive about the future for the local store.

He said: “Our new opening hours make it very easy for people to pop in on the way to work or on their way home, which I think local people will be happy with.

“We also have a new post office counter which is completely open. I feel this will create a more friendly, personal service.”

Mr Patel, with business partner and wife Smita, have been really please with the response from customers.

Mrs Patel said: "People are coming in saying it’s so spacious and a much better environment. They have been so kind – we’ve received nothing but praise from people.”

Snellers employees, who worked with the owners to find the site, and Councillor Pamela Fleming attended the opening celebration.

Snellers chartered surveyor Timothy Hodges said: “This shop has been empty for over two years, so it’s great that it’s now occupied.”

Coun Fleming said: “It’s fantastic to have a business that is in the town centre, which really, is the heart of the community.”

The shop will be open between 7.30am to 6.30pm and the post office will be open between 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Both will be closed on Sunday.
