Keen gardeners will get a chance to snoop around some well maintained gardens this weekend as Richmond Allotment opens its gates for a public open day.
Between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday, August 14, 33 allotment owners will welcome visitors to see their plots which feature everything from cottage garden style patchwork sheds to gleaming greenhouses all stacked with fresh fruit and vegetables.
The allotment event at Old Palace Yard is part of National Allotments Week and celebrates the rising interest in people nurturing their own patches of land.
Tea, cakes and refreshments will be available at the allotment’s communal plot and visitors can even pick up their own plants at a special plant and vegetable stall. Entrance is £3, with children free of charge.
