A pair of parks are the latest in Richmond to have been awarded Green Flag status.

Cambridge Gardens, Twickenham, and Kew Green are the latest two parks to have been granted the award, raising the number of council-owned parks with the status to double figures.

Councillor Virginia Morris, Richmond Council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “Six years ago, our borough’s parks didn’t have a single Green Flag; now we have 11.

“I said last year we were aiming to break into double figures and we’ve achieved that at a stroke.”

The council worked with closely with the Friends of Cambridge Park and the Kew Society to improve the green spaces, including planting new trees and shrubs.

There are now 15 parks in the borough with Green Flag status, including Richmond Park and Bushy Park, and School House Lane Orchard and Crane Park, which, although council owned, had their status applied for by their management committees.
