Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith has been acknowleged for his environmental work by being named a top green politician.

Mr Goldsmith, was announced as the joint winner in the Politician of the Year category at the BusinessGreen Leaders awards, along with Tim Yeo, MP for Suffolk South, at an awards ceremony in London.

The awards ceremony, held on Thursday, July 7, aimed to highlight British companies and individuals that lead the thinking behind how the UK can sustain financial and commercial pre-eminence in a greener world.

The eco-minded politician was one of seven nominees in a shortlist prepared by the environmental think thank Green Alliance.

Mr Goldsmith said: “I am flattered to have even been nominated for such a prestigious award.

“The Government has said it is committed to being the greenest government ever, and I think it is making real progress.

“But we have a long way to go. This is one of the principle reasons I became involved in politics and it will remain my priority.”
