Pupils’ carbon-cutting excellence won their school an £4,500 eco-makeover.

For the past four months, youngsters from six secondary schools in the borough took part in the Race2Zero project, which challenged schools to reduce their carbon footprint.

In total the schools reduced their C02 emission by a whopping 64 tonnes a year, with each school reducing its emissions by about 10 per cent.

The hard work of pupils culminated in a presentation and Dragons’ Den style competition, hosted by MP Zac Goldsmith, on Thursday, July 7, at Grey Court School, Ham.

Youngsters from Richmond’s Christ’s School were crowned winners and got the school an eco-makeover worth £4,500.

Each of the six schools was also awarded between £100 to £250 to further their school’s environmental efforts.

Grey Court School headteacher Maggie Bailey said: “The initiative was a great educational project”.
