A whist-loving pensioner enjoyed a special party to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Dorothy Percy was treated to the party with friends and staff at Homelink Respite Care Centre, in Whitton, to mark her landmark birthday, on Wednesday, June 15.

The centenarian moved to Twickenham in 1940, from her hometown of Walworth, with her husband Walter and daughter, where she got work with a gas company in Hounslow.

After moving to Taunton for a couple of years, due to her husband’s services duties, the family returned to Twickenham and Mrs Percy went back to work.

However, when the men returned from the war the company decided not to employ women anymore and so the mother-of-one went into the civil service becoming an executive officer.

She retired from the role in 1971 and enjoyed many years with her husband until his death in December 2001.

The couple were married for 70 happy years.

Mrs Percy enjoys holidays, whist drives and needlework and was a volunteer with the Conservative Party.

Jen Clarke, from Homelink, said: “She is an amazing lady and we wish her a very happy 100th birthday.”
