With just a week to go until the royal wedding all applications are in, the figures have been counted, and Richmond has officially been crowned street party capital of London.
Local Government Association (LGA) figures made public today showed Richmond had topped the list of London’s royal wedding parties with 85 street closures planned – six more than closest rival Wandsworth.
Lord True, leader of Richmond Council, said he was delighted so many residents had decided to mark the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton with their friends and neighbours.
He said: “This is fantastic news. "With a week to go to the big event we are now due to have 85 royal wedding street parties in Richmond the greatest number of any other London Borough. “When you consider our population we will probably have more parties per resident than anywhere else in the country [and] anything that brings communities together like this is to be welcomed.
“I am absolutely delighted; as I said a few months ago, let the streets party, the bunting fly and the bells ring out for William and Kate.”
Nationally the number of street parties set to be held has topped 5,000 - with 800 in London alone.
