Vince Cable MP will face more pressure in Twickenham today when Richmond College students deliver a campaign letter to his constituency office.

Students and teachers from Richmond College, in Egerton Road, Twickenham, are due to walk through the town this afternoon to deliver a letter to Dr Cable, calling for the Government to abandon plans to scrap the £30 a week educational maintenance allowance (EMA) for poorer students.

They are due to leave the college at 1pm and walk through Twickenham to the Business Secretary's constituency office, in Lion Road. Currently 50 per cent of students at Richmond College receive £30 EMA, higher than the national average.

Labour leader Ed Miliband has backed the lecturers and students.

Dave Carrier, chairman of Richmond College’s branch of the University College Union (UCU), said: “These are troubled times but only through sustained action can we begin to roll back these draconian attacks on our students and our livelihoods.”
