These saucy traders got their kit off to reveal their special offers in a 2011 charity calendar.

Brave members of the Whitton Business Association (WBA) decided to bare all to raise funds for Homelink, a respite care centre at St Augustine’s Church, in Hospital Bridge Road.

Owners of shops including Whitton Pet Centre, Nix Florist and Kneller Furnishings wore nothing but a smile in the cheeky pictures, which they hope will also bring in the cash to help fund the town’s Christmas lights.

Organiser Dawn Keep, treasurer of the WBA and owner of La Parisienne coffee shop, said: “We had an absolutely fabulous time doing it.

“We need to be self-sufficient as the WBA so we can fund events for the community such as the Christmas lights and the Christmas market we are HAVING on November 25, and St George’s Day next year.

“We can only do that by fundraising and doing something a bit fun.

“They are certainly raising a smile on people’s faces when they see the traders in a different light for a change.

“We’ve had such a good reaction, they are really impressed we were foolish enough to do it.

“Everyone was absolutely up for it.”

All the members were photographed in their own shops with props from their trade, along with a red rose in each picture as a nod to sponsors the Rugby Football Union.

Kate Turner, 71, of Whitton’s Wishes charity shop, appears with volunteer Iris Rigby, 74, wearing nothing but “a hat and a smile”.

She said customers had already bought the 15 calendars she had in her store.

She said: “It’s not risque, but it’s bordering on Calendar Girls and boys. It was great fun doing it.

“We are pushing them for all we are worth, and people are quite happily buying them.”

The calendar costs £4.95 and is available from retailers in Whitton.

Teacher turns pin-up

A primary school teacher who developed breast cancer last year has posed in a glamorous 2011 calendar to raise money for charity.

Alison Colenso, 38, said youngsters and staff at Heathfield Junior School, Twickenham, loved her 1950s-style pin-up pose, which appears on the January page.

She teamed up with 17 other cancer sufferers from across the country to shoot the calendar in aid of the Sharon Fox Cancer Centre, Macmillan Cancer Support and the St Giles Hospice.

The teacher, who lives in Whitton, said: “Everyone at the school loves it, lots of staff have bought a copy.

“It’s a 1950s-style pin-up calendar with Marilyn Monroe-style poses.

“We had lots of props and things.

“The calendar was so much fun.”
