A library’s’s future remains unclear as the council tries to find ways to claw back savings.
It was announced last month Heathfield library could be closed, as part of Richmond Council’s attempts to reduce the libraries budget by £351,000.
At a cabinet meeting on Monday, Councillor Geoffrey Samuel, deputy leader of the council, said the decision would be subject to consultation, but added its small number of users was a problem Coun Samuel said: “The question of Heathfield library is subject to a full consultation.
“The number of people who go to that library is far, far less than our other libraries.”
He added Whitton library would still be convenient for Heathfield residents because it was closesr to their shopping area.
A consultation on library services in the borough is currently being held, and is available to complete online at richmond.gov.uk/libraries.
The consultation closes on November 26.
