Brentford's decision to completely change their team at half-time led to Staines Town beating them 3-1 in the first friendly of the season at Wheatsheaf Park on Saturday.

Steve Cordery's men went behind to a 10th-goal from Alex Rhodes, but bounced back as Leroy Rosenior looked at several triallists.

Youth product Charlie Ide was in fine form for Brentford before going off injured, having outshone new strikers Jo Kuffour and Chris Moore.

A crowd of 1,249 saw solid displays from Swans debutants Adam Thompson (ex-Walton), Kevin Warner (Hayes) and Errol Telemaque (Yeading), but the limelight was taken by two Wheatsheaf Park old boys keeper James Courtnage, fresh from a year backpacking in Brazil, and Gareth Risbridger, back after two-and-a half-years out with a serious injury that almost saw him lose his leg.

The previous two friendlies between these teams had ended scoreless, but that scenario was removed when Rhodes headed home a cross from Moore.

But Staines responded within four minutes, when Telemaque fed Mark Nwokeji, who hit a curling shot past Stuart Nelson.

There were a raft of changes at half-time, and Town's substitutes included new faces Josias Carbon from Slough, Stuart Goodall and Ricky Alexander.

The home side took a 2-1 lead after 50 minutes, with Ali Chaaban showing the finishing that made him top scorer in just four months of last season.

He then added his second with another confident finish from Carbon's pass.
