A joyful homage to Mozart was made by Anete Graudina and her friends in the concert at St Anne's Church on Kew Green recently.
The orchestra, mainly comprised of members of the London College of Music and Media String Ensemble, was led by Susanne Stanzeleit. The impeccable musical direction of conductor Orlando Jopling was evident throughout the concert.
First on the programme were three divertimenta for string orchestra played with effervescence and verve. This was followed by the Haffner Serenade for violin and orchestra. The solo was played lovingly, and with breathtaking virtuosity, by Anete Graudina, whose marvellous, liquid tones followed the subtle interplay of shadow and light in the music.
After the interval we heard the lovely and expressive playing of Konrad Trostmann, in the Adagio in E major for violin and orchestra. The final piece on the programme was the piano concerto No 9 with soloist Vanya Elias-Jos. The Allegro sparkled, the dark and brooding Andantino presto also soared and the Rondo finale was magical.
Throughout, Vanya Elias-Jos's absolute musicality and interactive playing lifted and inspired the orchestra to pure, joyous music making.
