Brentford hope the £150,000 shirt sponsorship they have signed with online betting company Samvo Entertainment Ltd will lead to top Chinese players coming to Griffin Park in a deal that could be worth about £1million.

The spin-offs from attracting the first Chinese based shirt sponsor to British football should include massive shirt sales and television coverage in the Far East.

Samvo marketing director Wayne Openshaw told the Times: "We are paying £150,000 to be Brentford's primary shirt sponsor for the next two years but we would be prepared to pay anything from £250,000 to £750,000 to bring a Chinese international to the club probably in a year.

"Wing Feng, the Chinese national team captain, was interested until Brentford failed to win promotion to the Championship."

Samvo are talking to retail company Li-Ling, with a distribution network in China of 16,000 outlets, about stocking Brentford shirts, which could more than treble the club's shirt sales.

Openshaw, 41, added: "The shirt sales and the link with Chinese players should generate a lot of interest and result in television coverage of Brentford in the Far East."

Samvo have more than 30 years' experience in the betting and gaming world.
