The tennis at Wimbledon is over and there's still no British winner. The football World Cup is over, and again our sporting heroes failed to live up to expectations.

English cricket and rugby appear to be in the doldrums, but cheer up, there is one Wimbledon event guaranteed to lift your spirits.

The Wimbledon Civic Theatre Trust a charitable organisation re-established in 2004 is planning a fundraising fairytale ball called An Enchanted Evening, in the glorious setting of the All England Club, on Saturday, September 23.

The aims of the trust are very simple: To reach out to the local community and provide theatre-based educational opportunities for young people, particularly secondary school children, who are excluded, disadvantaged or those with special needs.

Since the trust established its education function, more than 2,500 people have participated in an event or been involved in a project. This work is on-going, but can only continue with the help of the community.

All profits from this fundraising event will fund a series of drama therapy workshops in three of the borough's special needs schools, for children with physical and mental disabilities.

The project will culminate in a special session in the New Wimbledon Theatre Studio Theatre, which will be transformed into a magical multi-sensory environment, combining theatre with appropriate stimuli for the children.

This Enchanted Evening kicks off with a champagne reception, followed by a three-course meal, including wine, while a jazz pianist serenades guests.

After dinner those energetic enough can take to the floor and dance the night away to the sound of the band Star, playing music to suit all tastes.

If you want to be part of this evening, tickets are available at £100 each, which includes all the above, including champagne and wine.

To reserve your tickets please call Margaret Strayton on 020 8543 8185.

The Wimbledon Civic Theatre Trust is a registered charity (Charity No. 1011660).
