A massive 60,000 revellers will be able to attend the Help for Heroes charity gig at Twickenham Stadium after permission was given to increase its capacity for the concert.

Councillors gave the green light to an application asking for the stadium’s capacity to be increased from 55,000 to 60,000 for the one-off gig at a planning committee meeting last Thursday.

The concert, on September 12, will see fans and troops enjoy performances from Take That member Robbie Williams and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, along with many other top acts.

Proceeds from the event will go to Help for Heroes, which raises money for wounded ex-servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

The application to increase capacity by 5,000 was put forward by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and was approved on condition the concert ends at 10.15pm and the sporting body pays £9,600 towards transport management and additional council officer time.

Councillor Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council’s cabinet member for communities, said: “I’m absolutely delighted the Help for Heroes concert will be taking place in our borough.

“I would like to congratulate the RFU for the key part they have played and I know with their involvement the event promises to be a great success.

“I hope the event will raise a very significant amount of money for this most worthy of causes.”
