How did it get up there? Residents bemused by flag hoisted to top of 35m tree

Sitting high among the treetops this mysteriously placed England flag has a birdseye view of Richmond.

The flag is believed to have been at the top of the huge tree, at the end of Old Palace Lane, for almost three weeks.

Residents say they believe it was put there as a sign of support for England in the World Cup - but they are bemused about how it got to the top of the tree, which stands at 35m.

A Richmond Council spokesman said: “We haven’t yet decided what to do with it, but if it’s a danger to the tree we would take it down.”

Old Palace Lane? Trees in the area must be sprouting England flags, because there is also one at the top of a tree by Teddington Lock footbridge!
