A care home shut after a legionnaires’ disease scare is no closer to reopening after attempts to kill-off the life-threatening bacteria failed.
The future of Feltham Dene residential home remains uncertain after Hounslow Council admitted there was still “unsafe levels” of legionella bacteria in its water system.
A council spokeswoman said there was “no alternative” other than to evict 33 elderly residents from the Shaw Healthcare home, in Spring Road, Feltham, on October 8, last year.
She said: “Months of intensive work to purge the water system have so far proved unsuccessful as the bacteria remain at unsafe levels.
“A report will be taken to the council’s executive in the autumn, which will include advice from an independent expert we have commissioned to assess the work undertaken so far and to advise on any further works that might establish a safe water system - and there will be consultation with all interested parties before any decision is made.”
Some of Feltham Dene’s residents have since been staying in other Shaw Healthcare homes, including Kent Lodge in Ealing.
