Police are still seeking witnesses to a daring armed robbery in a newsagents just a stone's throw from Twickenham Police Station.

The siege took place on Saturday January 10 around 3pm.

The robbers' target was Mangat Newsagent in London Road; four young men entered the shop and one threatened the proprietor with a handgun. When the woman refused to hand over cash the armed man pulled the trigger.

Fortunately the gun was not loaded and the thugs ran off towards Twickenham Station.

Police later arrested four suspects but they have been granted bail and have not been charged.

The police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward as they believe the gang was responsible for threatening people on buses.

DC Dave Chalmers said: "The elderly woman who runs the news agents was very upset at the time but she seems a lot better now. We have reason to believe the same gang are responsible for threatening members of the public on busy bus routes."

Anyone who saw the gang or was threatened by them is urged to contact DC Dave Chalmers at Twickenham CID on 0181 541 1212.
