Plans for Jewson site on show

11:51am Friday 10th June 2005

LOCAL residents will be given the chance today and tomorrow to voice their opinions about the latest proposals for developing the old Jewson site in Sandy Lane, Teddington. Linden Homes, the developers of the site, are holding a public exhibition to discuss the freshly drawn up plans for the site.

Land director of Linden Homes, Steve Lavers, said: "Linden Homes is keen to consult with the local community, elected representatives and organisations. To that end we have been working closely with local residents' associations on the scheme and asking for their views over the past year.

"This new scheme has taken on board comments made at the previous exhibition and by local residents' groups and we would like to see as many people as possible attend the exhibition to view these new plans."

The aim of the exhibition, he said, is to gather local views on the new scheme to ensure that the development is acceptable to local residents. Following the exhibition, Linden will submit a new application, which they hope will be decided upon by local councillors who know the area and its residents.

Leader of the council and councillor for Hampton Wick, Tony Arbour, said: "This development still continues to be a gross over development of a site overlooking the Grade 1 listed Bushy Park. I believe it does not reflect its surroundings and were it to be approved it would impose a huge burden on the local infrastructure. "

"Teddington, like most of Richmond upon Thames, predominantly consists of low density housing and that is why it is so popular with residents. The council's policy is to preserve this character and as ward councillor I do not think that this proposal matches our ambitions for the area."

The Linden Homes exhibition will be held today between 4pm and 8pm, and tomorrow (Saturday) between 10am and 3pm at Alderney House, Sandy Lane, Teddington.
