Owners of the Feltham Marshalling Yards have agreed to pay for a traffic calming scheme in Powder Mill Lane writes TRICIA BLADES.
British Land will also pay for a similar scheme on the Woodland Estate to counteract the effects of Royal Mail and a freight depot moving on to the site.
Royal Mail area manager Tim Garrett called the measures a good move.
Mr Garrett added: "British Land is a major company that takes its responsibilities in these areas seriously."
Twickenham MP Vince Cable has been keeping abreast of the latest developments concerning the land.
And the MP has welcomed the development.
Dr Cable believes that the traffic calming measures will give some protection from the heavy goods vehicle traffic generated by the 24-hour freight depot.
He said: "This will ensure that a densely-populated part of Heathfield and schools on Powder Mill Lane will enjoy some protection."
But Heathfield residents are not impressed by the news.
The chairman of its residents' association, Frances Smith, said she was very concerned about the weight of traffic.
She said: "They might impress Vince Cable but they don't impress me.
"There will be a turnover of an extra 1,000 vehicles a day. How can you calm that?"
