A man who has devoted 25 years of his life to a Hampton Wick charity finally retired last week.

Ronnie Ellison is hanging up his hat after many happy years in his role as clerk of the Hampton Wick United Charities. The self-effacing ex-clerk said of his years of service; `I enjoyed my time and have always found the work and the people involved fascinating.'

Mr Ellison took on the mantle through his work with solicitors Wilkinson Howlett in Kingston. Despite retiring from the firm 10 years ago he continued to act as clerk for the charity at its base in Kingston Road, Teddington.

The charity, an amalgam of several pre-war charities from Hampton Wick and Teddington, was originally created to alleviate need and poverty. Today its aims remain the same but include educational grants for school computers and university students.

Stepping into his shoes will be Roger Avins.
