A STARK warning has been made that the revaluation of properties for council tax was a "ticking tax timebomb" that threatens to send bills in Richmond soaring.

Marco Forgione, Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Richmond Park, is concerned about the revaluation, which starts next year.

He said Conservatives have pledged they will stop this being used to further increase the tax burden on local residents.

If the Welsh changes were duplicated in England then many band D homes in Richmond could see a tax hike of £295. For a band H home, it could increase the total bill to £3,124 a year.

Mr Forgione said: "It is clear that Labour are planning third term tax rises, with stealth changes to council tax one of their preferred ways of squeezing hard working families and pensioners.

"I am very concerned that people who may not be wealthy, but whose home has risen in value due to rising house prices, will be taxed to the hilt, and will struggle to pay their soaring local tax bills."
