Unicorn School

11:13am Monday 23rd August 2004

Best School in the World' Best school in the world', exciting, fun and challenging', brilliant', fantastic', friendly', not just about learning but about having fun' thus ran comments from the Year 6 Leavers' Questionnaires at Unicorn School.

With field study trips to the Lake District and Cornwall, visits to the theatre and the Evening Standard and the excitement of the school play, one can be forgiven for concluding that Unicorn pupils just have fun and don't work at all! Results in the KS2 SATs, however, demonstrate quite the opposite: 90% of Year 6 leavers gained a Level 5 in their English exam and 80% gained a Level 5 in their Science exam (Level 4 is the government expectation for the age). In addition, last academic year 20% of the pupils gained a scholarship to the following senior schools: Latymer, Hampton and King's College.

Unicorn is unique in the area by virtue of its parental ownership. Parents, and grandparents, form a strong, supportive nucleus for the school and help with outings and clubs. The school is also very special in that it encourages children to enjoy their childhood without undue pressure. Children learn because they are relaxed and happy and able to benefit from the very broad educational experience provided.

An excellent staff-pupil ratio, particularly in the Nursery and Reception, allows children to enjoy their years at school, amidst an atmosphere that is secure and supportive, yet also stimulating and exciting. At Unicorn we take great care to ensure that our younger children are happy and settled.

Unicorn is only a small school with a one-form entry, yet children enjoy the benefit of a library and specialist facilities for: Art, Science, ICT and Design Technology.

Please visit and see for yourself the happy, smiling faces around the school.
