A man who attacked his ex-wife with a hammer is behind bars.
Hassan Nur Mohamed was handed an indeterminate sentence for public protection at Kingston Crown Court last Friday, after being found guilty of attempting to cause his ex-wife grievous bodily harm.
Nur Mohamed, of Stratford Road, Birmingham, was arrested outside his ex-wife’s home in Richmond, in the early hours of May 3, 2009, after attacking her with a hammer.
The 57-year-old travelled from his home to London on a bus earlier that night and made his way to his ex-wife’s house, where she lived with their sons.
When his wife returned to the house Nur Mohamed appeared wearing a balaclava and aimed several blows at her head.
On hearing their mother’s screams the two eldest sons, who were in the house, ran to help and managed to restrain her attacker.
They removed his balaclava only to discover that it was their father.
When police arrested Nur Mohamed he was found with a hatchet axe, a hammer, some plastic coated copper wiring and a balaclava.
During a two-week trial the jury heard evidence from the victim, who has not been named, and her children.
Detective Constable Jolyon Holt, of the homicide and serious crime unit, said: “This is a very satisfactory result in what has proved to be a difficult case, balancing the wishes of the victim and her family against those of the public interest.”
