A CHISWICK school has been granted Technology Status after a successful bid to the government education department.

Chiswick Community School, in Burlington Lane, has won its bid to achieve status as a Technology College after two years to expand its quality of teaching and educational opportunities with increased technology.

Headteacher, David Brockie, told the Times: We will continue to have a broad base of education but seek to have a technology flavour with access to high technology especially computers and equipment for science, maths and geography.

The money from the government and the companies will be around £180,000 to begin for facilities. The local community will also benefit as well as our partner primary and secondary schools.

We had been working for this for two years and entered the government's competition for specialist status. The key thing is that this is about technological approach to learning and teaching and it will take us into this century. Each young person will have their skills they will need to work in the world of work.''

The status will be in operation from September and there will be new courses in Science, maths, and ICT. Improvements will include a range of state of the art software, two refurbished ICT rooms and a cyber caf for staff and students.
