A cystic fibrosis sufferer who is in the middle of a long-distance running challenge has organised a Battle of the Bands charity fundraiser, which takes place tomorrow.
Rob Lake, who lecturers in sports science at St Mary’s University College, is half way through a 101-mile challenge involving two marathons, three half marathons and a ten mile run.
Along with his friend Ashley Bolton, Dr Lake took on the challenge to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Trust and Friday's fundraiser is for the same cause.
It will be held in St Mary’s student union bar, in Waldegrave Road, Twickenham, and feature live music sessions from some of the university college’s student and staff bands and other music acts in the area.
Dr Lake, 29, was diagnosed with the inherited condition, which makes it hard for sufferers to breathe by clogging the lungs with think sticky mucus, when he was a baby.
He said: “I consider myself to be one of the very lucky ones. I can eat what I like; I have a full-time job; I can run around and play sports.
“I’m a fit and healthy CF patient, but there are thousands of people in the UK with CF that aren't so lucky.
“That's why I am raising money for the CF Trust, to help those less fortunate.
“And what better way to do that than to listen to great live music.”
